The Pentagram

One shape through five thousand years — the Sumerian star, the Pythagoreans' sign of health, the golden ratio hidden in it, Gawain's endless knot, Agrippa's man, Lévi's upright and inverted stars, the Golden Dawn's elements at its points, and the goat.

The five-pointed star drawn in one line is the most used figure in Western magic and the most misread. It has been a seal of health, a knight's badge, a map of the human body, a weapon against demons and, for a hundred and fifty years, a sign that its wearer is on the devil's side. The Banishing Trainer draws it four ways; this is the story of each.
