Radiesthesia — the Pendulum over the Map
The twentieth-century French school that made the pendulum a science of 'rays' — the abbés Bouly and Mermet, map dowsing and medical radiesthesia, its cousin radionics — what they claimed, what the tests found, and what is worth keeping.
The dowser's rod is old; the pendulum over a map is not. It belongs to a movement of the 1920s and 30s, French and largely clerical, that gave dowsing a new name, a theory of rays and a confidence it has never quite lost. The Pendulum tool is built on the older and more honest view (see The Pendulum and the Dowsing Rod); this lesson is about the newer one, because most of what you will read about pendulums descends from it.
