The Olympic Spirits
The seven planetary governors of the Arbatel of Magic and its gentle, ethical magic.
The Arbatel of Magic, printed anonymously in Basel in 1575, stands apart from most grimoires. Instead of threats and compulsion, it opens with dozens of aphorisms on piety, humility and the right use of knowledge. Magic, it says, is a gift of God to be used for the good of others. Its most famous teaching concerns seven planetary governors: the Olympic spirits.
