ELEMENTAL MAGIC · LESSON 7 OF 7 · 15 MIN

The Tattva Tides

The Indian doctrine of the five tattvas flowing in turn through the day and the breath — Rama Prasad's Nature's Finer Forces, the Golden Dawn's twenty-four-minute tides from sunrise, the swara of the nostrils — and how to work with a tide.

The five tattvas — akasha the black egg of spirit, vayu the blue circle of air, tejas the red triangle of fire, apas the silver crescent of water, prithivi the yellow square of earth — are met in this curriculum as shapes to gaze at (see The Tattvas). The same teaching says they also flow: that through every day and every breath the five take their turn, and that the magician who knows which is flowing can work with the tide instead of against it. The Elements tool keeps that clock. This is where it comes from.
