Reading the Day — the Almanac
The little book that chose the day for centuries — Moore's Vox Stellarum and Poor Richard's, the Moon in the signs for sowing and cutting, the planetary days and hours, the zodiac man, saints' days and weather lore — and the Today page as an almanac of your own.
For most of the last five centuries the one book in a house besides the Bible was the almanac: a calendar for the year with the Moon's phases and the eclipses, sunrise and sunset, the saints' days and the fairs, the planets' places, the weather to expect, and a page of prophecy. It told farmers when to sow, physicians when to bleed, and everyone when the Moon would be full. It was the people's astrology, and the Today page of this site is its descendant.
