Liber E and the Magical Record
Crowley's first course of training — the scientific record, a card-guessing test, the four postures, timed breathing and the control of thought — and the grades of the A∴A∴ it led into.
Crowley wanted magick to be tested like a science. The first instruction he published for students, Liber E vel Exercitiorum — the "Book of Exercises" — in the first number of The Equinox in 1909, opens not with a ritual but with a laboratory rule.
