Strike sixteen lines of dots by hand or let the figures fall, then watch the shield, drawn in sand, built step by step down to the Judge — tap any figure to see the lines to the figures it was made from, and its rows as the four elements — and read the house chart, drawn as the old square horoscope: choose what your question is about, see whether the matter perfects, and find the Part of Fortune. Share a chart by link, and keep charts to mark how they turn out. Learn where the art came from: the Arabic science of the sand, and its cousins in Ifá and Madagascar. See the sixteen as one family: each figure beside the four that differ by a line, with its upside-down twin and its opposite, and why only eight can be Judge. Work the shield out yourself, as the old geomancers did: each Daughter read across the Mothers and each Niece, Witness and the Judge added by hand, checked row by row, with the even Judge as the proof of the working. Then read further: trace the Way of the Point from the Judge back to the root of the matter, glowing on the shield, light each of the four triads with Greer's and Fludd's readings, and find the Index beside the Part of Fortune. Strike the lines by drawing a finger across the sand. And practise before you cast: name the sixteen figures from their dots, make them row by row, add two as the shield is worked, give each its planet; and read practice charts for perfection, saying how querent and matter come together before the chart shows you.
