Icelandic Staves

Make a stave of your own in the manner of the Icelandic grimoires: two to four runes bound together and set round a centre on four, six or eight arms, finished with forks, circles, bars or hooks and cross-strokes. Watch it carved in on paper, oak or calfskin, save it as PNG or SVG, and find the planetary hour to draw it in. Keep your staves, log a month of journeys with a wayfinder of your own as the lesson asks, and read about the Galdrabók, the Huld manuscript, the Vegvísir and the Helm of Awe, the staves for every need, and Iceland's burnings. Train your eye by finding the runes hidden in a stave, with a hint that pulls one out in colour. Point at an arm to see what it carries, draw marks of your own that repeat round every arm, and carve or draw the whole stave yourself, stroke by stroke, with every arm cut at once if you like; the month's journeys fill a ring of thirty days.
